Innovation Network Tech Talks: Decommissioning and Well Abandonment

ITF Energy have announced the second event in their series of Innovation Network Tech Talks, supported by Decom North Sea.  The Tech Talk events support and promote the developer community and provide a platform to showcase innovative and leading technology to ITF members and the wider oil and gas industry.

It is estimated that about 45% of all decommissioning costs in the North Sea relate to well plugging and abandonment, and operators are now pressing ahead with well abandonment activities or have clear plans in place over the next two to three years to do so.  There is no doubt that the pace of well abandonment is now accelerating.  Progress has been made by operators in improving the efficiencies and reducing the costs of well abandonment, but the costs are still high and there is a big prize to be gained by achieving further cost reductions.  In this context, new technologies will play a crucial role.

This Innovation Network Tech Talk, supported by Decom North Sea, will focus on Decommissioning and Well Abandonment.  Technology developers, Industry bodies and operators will take part in an interactive session where they will present the challenges faced by industry as well as showcase technologies and developments to assist the decommissioning challenges.
