Robert Gordon University
Professor Steel has been Head of the School of Engineering at The Robert Gordon University (RGU) since 2007.
He was previously Academic Head of Mechanical Engineering and Senior Lecturer at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, where he worked since completing his PhD, in 1991. Professor Steel has a strong research background in monitoring and diagnostics using novel applications of acoustic emission. His work has involved extensive collaboration with industry from across Europe for applications to reciprocating machines and in particular monitoring and management of power generating engines. Recent work included Sand monitoring using Acoustic Emission and Optimisation of offshore wind turbine maintenance.
He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Energy Institute.
